It's amazing how the draft is, and how much better all the teams would be if they could see into the future.

All teams make mistakes, and they always will, but you have to try to minimize them as much as possible. The Habs have been bad for years and it's cost them dearly.

If we look at 2018. The Habs' first pick, 3rd overall Jesperi Kotkaniemi, was selected to fill a need, not because he was the best player available. This was a serious mistake.

According to what Marc-Antoine Godin reported shortly before losing his job, Quinn Hughes was on the CH's list, but Victor Mete prevented them from drafting him.

If you had the chance to draft a 2nd Cole Caufield, even one this small, would you do it? To ask the question is to answer it.

"The argument of saying that the Habs already have Cole Caufield and that adding another Top-6 forward who would be small in stature with similar deficiencies could be one small scoring forward too many, to me it does nothing but make me think of the time when the Habs decided not to draft Quinn Hughes and put him further down their list because they already had Victor Mete as a small offensive defenseman anyway." - Marc-Antoine Godin

In other words, the CH said no to an almost point-per-game defenseman because there was already another supposedly offensive defenseman of similar stature on the team.
