Return of the Quebec Nordiques? Gary Bettman makes a big statement about a possible expansion team

Gary Bettman and Bill Daly have been saying for some time now that an expansion team is not on the agenda, but there may soon be a change. Fresh from the Board of Governors, he was asked:

"The best answer I can give you is that we continually receive expressions of interest from places like Houston, Atlanta, Quebec City and Salt Lake City, but expansion is not on the agenda[...] But we're not in a mode where I say, 'OK, if you're interested in expansion, submit your applications and we'll evaluate them', as we did previously. We're not there."

- Gary Bettman

So, in the short term, there won't be one, but it could still happen quickly. Why? Quite simply, the NHL wants to inflate prices. Vegas fetched $500 million, Seattle 650 and the Senators were sold for $950 million.

The next expansion team could therefore bring in a figure in the billions for the League and its owners. Remember, Bettman's number-one job is to generate profits. Of course, Quebec City is always in the running.

So it's going to be a market and money war for the next city that wants an expansion team. In my opinion, Quebec City will unfortunately be out of the running and will have to turn to a move, rather than an expansion.
