An Embarrassing Preseason Loss for the Vancouver Canucks and Their Coach.

It's the preseason in the National Hockey League, where the outcomes technically hold little weight in the grand scheme of things. However, this did little to ease the profound embarrassment experienced by Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet on Sunday night.

Tocchet stood firmly behind the Canucks' bench as his team delivered one of the most lackluster performances witnessed during the preseason, succumbing to a relentless onslaught by the Calgary Flames. The game concluded mercifully after the Flames amassed an astonishing 10 unanswered goals. Yes, you read that correctly - the final score was 10-0 in favor of the Flames. Unsurprisingly, Tocchet expressed his profound dissatisfaction with the spectacle unfolding on the ice, making his sentiments clear to both the assembled media and his players after the game.

"I feel like Sean Payton," Tocchet quipped in his initial remarks during the post-game media session.

Here's Why Rick Tocchet May Feel Similar to Coach of The Broncos Sean Payton

For those unfamiliar with the reference, Sean Payton is the head coach of the National Football League's Denver Broncos, and on the same Sunday, Payton and the Broncos found themselves on the receiving end of a resounding defeat, losing by a staggering margin of 70-20 against the Miami Dolphins.

Despite his evident disappointment, Tocchet did extend some acknowledgment to certain players, highlighting the fact that many of them persevered through the game, despite the lopsided scoreline. Specifically, Tocchet reserved praise for Nils Hoglander, who emerged as one of the bright spots for the Canucks that evening.

"I thought he was one of the positives tonight," Tocchet conceded. "He's just got to learn... don't get frustrated, stay in yourself. But I do like his effort."

Although the Canucks iced a near-AHL level roster on Sunday night, it's still safe to say they were embarrassed and shouldn't have been beat that bad. Although it is a great result for the Calgary Flames who needed that boost of confidence going into their first season under a new head coach..
