Kraken GM Ron Francis was clearly disappointed with Shane Wright this past season and has tried to ignite him by giving him a reality check.
Ron Francis Gives a Reality Check to Shane Wright After His Disappointing Season
Shane Wright was the highly anticipated first-overall pick in the 2022 draft that winded up falling to fourth overall after a crazy turn of events. After this, everybody thought the Kraken got a steal by getting Wright at four but after a lackluster first season, people are starting to question the original notion. Wright only played 8 NHL games this past season posting 2 points and playing minimal minutes. The Kraken then assigned him to the AHL where he played much better and after the World Junior Championship, Wright was reassigned to the OHL where he dominated. However, GM Ron Francis was disappointed in Wright and delivered a reality check to him recently. It's going to come down to Shane and how hard he works in the summertime - Ron Francis on Shane Wright
Why Is Francis Saying This?</h2 Francis is likely saying this because he was disappointed in Wright's development this past season and wanted to see more from him before establishing himself in the NHL. Wright is clearly too good for the OHL and plays well in the AHL but his effort this summer will determine his NHL status. If he puts in a lot of effort, he could be a Calder finalist, if he slacks off, it looks like another year in the AHL for Wright.
