Daniel Brière is a young general manager who is learning the hard way. Last week, we learned that one of the teams top prospects, Cutter Gauthier, would not be attending the development camp. Now, Brière has just received more bad news direct from Russia. Goaltender Igor Fedotov has brilliant statistics in the KHL. His contract expired at the end of last season, and he was due to join the NHL to honour his league deal. Against all odds, Fedotov decided to extend his contract with CSKA Moscow by two years, becoming the first player to betray his NHL agreement since March 2022, when the memorandum of understanding between the two leagues was dissolved. If this had happened before the draft, do you think Brière would have set his sights on Matvei Michkov?

CSKA Moscow 🏳️ (KHL) have signed goaltender Ivan Fedotov to a two-year contract.

This makes Fedotov the first player to not honor his NHL contract since the NHL dissolved the memorandum of understanding between the two leagues in March of 2022. pic.twitter.com/ui4Ks9UoFp- Complete Hockey News (@CompleteHkyNews) July 8, 2023
 Credit: Keven Mawn, Go Nordiques
