With the addition of Casey DeSmith, the goaltending situation is a real headache for Kent Hughes and the Habs. Jake Allen has slowed down a lot, DeSmith is a good, inexpensive goalie and Montembeault is blossoming. The GM confirmed to Samuel that DeSmith's arrival was no reason to worry about his future in Montreal, but a new statement leads us to believe that he could still be traded. Max Truman says that if Monty is too stingy, Hughes may not have a choice. What's more, of the three goalies currently with the team, he's the one with the greatest value. No one is evaluating the possibility of Samuel Montembeault being traded. And yet, it does exist. He'll be on his own in 10 and a half months. If he and his agent want a #1 goalie contract, but the CH offers him a #2 goalie contract, it could happen. - Max Truman Personally, I think Hughes and the Montembeault clan are both reasonable and will come to an agreement without too many complications. However, this is where timing comes into play. If Kent Hughes wants to keep Monty at a good salary, the sooner he signs him, the better his chances. If he waits and the goalie has a good season, the price will inevitably rise.

No one is evaluating the possibility of Samuel Montembeault being traded.

Yet, it exists.

He'll be autonomous in 10 and a half months.
