The 2020-21 OHL season was cancelled due to COVID-19. It was at this point that Wright made the decision not to play hockey during the winter, something he was strongly advised against. Many young hopefuls then turned to Europe to continue their development.
Wright is tied with Connor McDavid for the most points by a 15-year-old in OHL history.

It's easy today to say that this is the reason for his difficulties in the pros, but it's not too late. He's still very young. However, he hasn't had the beginnings of a player who has the status of an exceptional player, and he'll have to work hard.
A gap year at such a young age, even if you train and practice, is very harmful to development. These are crucial years that prepare us to become professionals.
