We knew Paul Byron was a warrior, but this is just crazy. After playing just 27 games in 2021-22 and none in 2022-23, all signs point to the diminutive forward announcing his retirement from professional hockey. At Kent Hughes' last press briefing, the GM even spilled the beans that it was all over for number 41, not just in Montreal, but throughout his career. A spectacular turn of events, however, as Byron isn't ready to give up just yet. He was recently Chris Nilan's guest on his podcast Raw Knuckles, and he steadfastly refuses to give up hope. If I lose hope, it goes against my values. I'm not at that stage yet, mentally. If someone told me I could play another 20-30 games, I'd try to sign a contract somewhere. - Paul Byron Byron even mentioned that he's not ruling out a return to NHL play, but that Europe or the AHL are currently his targets. His health is improving and he's even started playing sports again. You can see that the man is dedicated to his sport and loves it. It's a real shame that his body let him down, but let's hope his rehabilitation continues and he can achieve his goals. As for his post-career with the CH, Hughes mentioned that he would be meeting Byron in September. I can't wait to see what's in store for him in the Habs organization.
