The Calgary Flames have just lost one of their wingers to a Western Conference rival, as he was stolen from them off of waivers today.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported Wednesday that a 27-year-old forward of the Calgary Flames was claimed off waivers by the San Jose Sharks.

Walker Duehr's time as a Calgary Flame is over

Wallker Duehr had one assist in 16 games with the Flames this season. The Sioux Falls, South Dakota native also has 11 goals and eight assists in 20 games with the AHL's Calgary Wranglers during the 2024-25 season.

Duehr joined the Flames as an undrafted free agent and made his NHL debut a few years ago during the 2021-22 season. He had scored nine goals and 19 points in 84 career games with the Flames over four seasons.

Duehr began the 2022-23 season with the Calgary Wranglers, but was called up after 41 games and remained with the Flames for the rest of the season.

He did have a lovely breakout to close that season, registering a solid seven goals and 11 points while providing much-needed physicality on the fourth line.

The 6-foot-2 winger impressed the Flames brass enough during that impressive run to earn himself a two-year extension. The 2023-24 season was a more difficult one for Duehr.

While he was able to crack the Flames roster out of training camp, he did struggle to earn regular minutes under a new head coach at the time in Ryan Huska, and ended up finding himself back in the AHL unfortunately.

Hopefully Duehr will be able to find success on a rebuilding Sharks team, where he could likely have a bigger role.
