For the first time since being suspended for three games, Oilers captain Connor McDavid spoke out about his suspension and gave his honest opinion.

On Monday, the NHL's Department of Player Safety handed a three-game suspension to Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid for his cross-check to the head of Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland.

Coming to the defense of McDavid, Sportsnet's Marc Spector argued that the star player was taking justice into his own hands, even referencing Corey Perry's remarks.

Some fans even demanded that McDavid boycott the upcoming Four Nations tournament as payback to Gary Bettman and the NHL, a thought TSN's Ryan Rishaug was quick to dismiss.

Oilers commentator Bob Stauffer tried to switch all of the blame to the league for not protecting its stars.

He continued to take shots at the Canucks, mentioning Stanley Cup failures and riots of the past, which had nothing to do with McDavid's suspension.

The Canucks, of course, played no part in that decision. Stauffer also thought McDavid should dial it back a notch in his promotion of the NHL, a feeling with which some Oilers fans agreed.

McDavid feels the suspension was too long

On Wednesday, McDavid was taking questions from the media for the first time since he was suspended, and during his interview, he said that while he felt the three-game suspension was excessive, he was ready to move on.

"It was a little harsh but I understand their decision and [we] gotta move on."

As for McDavid's luck, the suspension means he will not feature in Thursday's highly waited rematch against the Canucks, a tilt many fans were eager to see.

Without McDavid, the Oilers are going to have to regroup and rally if they are going to stay competitive.

They did suffer a narrow 3-2 loss to the league-leading Washington Capitals in their first game without him, so they need to put on their big-boy pants going forward.
