Steven Stamkos recently aired his disappointment with Lightening management over his upcoming contract renewal.
Stamkos Airs His Dissapointment with Lightning Management
In an interview, Stamkos detailed how his contract extension talks were going, and how he wasn't entirely happy that a deal wasn't done before training camp or that talks weren't really happening at all. Steven Stamkos on lack of a contract extension to this point: «To be honest I've been disappointed in the lack of talk in that regard. So it was something that I expressed at the end of last year that I wanted to get something done before training camp»

Stamkos' contract is set to expire after this season. Obviously, the Lightning should be interested in resigning him, since he has been in Tampa his whole career and led them to two Stanley Cups. However, he seems to be disappointed that contract talks aren't happening this offseason.
Stamkos Has Plenty Left in the Tank and Open to Discussions During Season
Stamkos is definitely getting near the end of his playing career, and his next contract could more than likely be his last. However, he does still have a lot to give, especially after putting up 34 goals and 50 assists for 84 points last year. As for his extension, he is open to getting something done during the season but would have rather had it finalized before camp. Ok to discuss during the season? «I'm ready whenever so I guess that was something that that I didn't see see coming but it is what it is.»

It would be wild to imagine Stamkos in another jersey, and even he wants to stay and finish his career out in Tampa. However, he recognizes it's not up to him. «Like I stated at the end of last year, too. I would love to extend and play here and finish up my career here but that's out of my hands. I can't write a contract for myself.»
