As we've known since the end of last season, Samuel Montembeault wants to stay with the Habs and sign a contract extension as soon as possible. Montembeault doesn't seem to mind the terms, he just wants the security of staying in Montreal. Here's what he told reporters at the end of the last campaign: I know the Habs have a lot of unfinished business, so I don't expect to sign [this new contract] early this summer. But if it can be done during training camp or early in the season, like Jake Allen was last year, I'd like that for sure. I'd like to stay with the Habs. - Samuel Montembeault Asked about the matter this morning at the CH golf tournament, Kent Hughes didn't have a super-positive answer to give. While the GM isn't worried about coming to an agreement one day, he seems pretty undecided. We'll determine the number of goaltenders first. As for the start of negotiations, whether during or after the season, I'll talk to Sam and his agent, said Hughes. There are some who don't like it [negotiating during the calendar] and prefer to concentrate on their game. We're not worried. - Kent Hughes In other words, the three-goal option is still on the table, and Monty's future with the club is not yet certain. That's quite an astonishing statement, given that the DG has the opportunity to sign him at a discount right now.

Credit: Marqueur
