The trade deadline was March 3rd, but teams can still trade, as long as the players involved are not playing in the NHL, for the rest of the season. In the case of the Blue Jackets, they just got some great news that is directly related to a trade made before the deadline. The Kings have qualified for the playoffs and it's paying off for Columbus. By sending Joonas Korpisalo and Vladislav Gavrikov to Los Angeles, they made the temporary acquisition of Jonathan Quick (later traded to the Golden Knights) and a conditional first round pick in 2023. With the Kings officially qualified, the condition is no more and the Jackets will have an extra first round pick for one of the best drafts in recent years.

Already in the running for Connor Bedard, who would fill the gap between Patrik Laine and Johnny Gaudreau perfectly, the Jackets will have the chance to add a talented player to their roster.
