The center position is well-stocked on the Canadiens team. In all, six players naturally play the center position, but two of them will have to play on the wing. We liked Kirby Dach last year, but is he really the second center of our dreams? He had his best moments on the wing with Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield, and with a healthy team, Martin St-Louis will certainly want to try again. That said, Alex Newhook is also listed as a center, and according to his former coach with the Colorado Eagles, Greg Cronin, he has everything it takes to succeed in this position. I loved him at center, personally. He was more able to use his great speed and generate offense. That's how (skating) he's at his best. I made sure to play him with guys who could keep up with his pace. Alex skates extremely fast so if he's paired with players who can keep up with him, both in terms of speed and execution, the trio will naturally generate a lot of offense. I really think he has what it takes to produce on an NHL top-six. He's got a lot of talent! These are very complimentary words for him. We've seen some great sequences since the start of camp, particularly in the company of Josh Anderson and Juraj Slafkovsky. We can see that St-Louis has done his homework and given him a fast winger in Anderson. In short, if everything goes according to plan and he can play center with the right wingers, he could certainly become a quality top-6 center in the NHL.

Credit: Marqueur
