There was another very high quality radio moment today, or maybe not actually, as we learned on BPM Sports that Norman Flynn would be making a very big deal that would involve Juraj Slafkovsky.

Imagine if the RDS analyst was willing to trade the first overall pick in the last draft for Pierre-Luc Dubois!

"Norman Flynn would be willing to trade Juraj Slafkovsky for Pierre-Luc Dubois.

If you were in Kent Hughes' shoes, would you do it? We want to hear from you!" - BPM Sports

If you thought Flynn had already maxed out on ridiculous trade proposals, he just hit a new high.

"I'm going to surprise you maybe a little bit [...], if they absolutely want to get Slafkovsky (for Dubois), I'd be willing to do that. I would take that risk. It's certain that Slafkovsky can be good [...], but to get a good player, you have to pay. You have to give something good. [...]

But if they ask for Slafkovsky, for Dubois, I would be willing to do it." - Norman Flynn

Unbelievable!

Basically, the latter would trade an 18 year old kid, who has two seasons left on his rookie contract, who has only played one NHL campaign, who was a first overall pick, in the midst of a rebuild where the Habs have no urgency to win as early as next year, for a guy six years older, who will have to sign a new deal at the end of the season at over $8.0M per season, and who didn't even play in the NHL his first year of eligibility.

It doesn't make sense to trade a young player who is so important to the future of the organization after only one professional season.

Furthermore, in the perspective of a rebuild, you need to accumulate the elements that will make the Habs better, by acquiring Dubois for Slafkovsky, you are not helping your franchise in the long term.

Furthermore, Dubois has made it clear that he wants to come play in Montreal. If he doesn't want to sign in Winnipeg, the Jets will have to trade him, but they won't get the short end of the stick in this deal, since in any case, any team that shows interest in him will want to make a long-term deal afterwards.

If Dubois absolutely wants to come to Montreal after the 2023-2024 season, where he will become an unrestricted free agent, Winnipeg will not be able to ask for the moon for him, let alone demand a Slafkovsky from the Habs in return.

Considering that Kent Hughes goal is to improve the team in the long run, it makes absolutely no sense to trade Slafkovsky to add Dubois. The goal would be to get Slafkovsky AND Dubois.

Remember, this is not Flynn's first public outburst, as he proposed trading Cole Caufield for Kyle Palmieri in 2020:

Or when he proposed trading Nick Suzuki for Wayne Simmonds in 2019 :

This time, Norman Flynn would destroy the team's future by trading Juraj Slafkovsky.
