A new trade proposal has surfaced which would not only solve Toronto's annual goaltending problem, but also take care of one of Winnipeg's biggest issues.
Hellebyuck to Toronto
A new mock trade would see Toronto and Winnipeg complete a massive deal, and would certainly change the outlook on the Leafs; season this year. Maple Leafs receive: Connor Hellebuyck and Logan Stanley Jets receive: Ilya Samsonov, Nick Robertson, Connor Timmins, and a 2024 first-round pick. The Leafs would lose their starter from last season, but gain a Vezina-winning goaltender. Toronto would also lose prospect Nick Robertson, defenseman Connor Timmins, and a 1st round pick, but would gain defenseman Logan Stanley in return. The Leafs would not only be upgrading in net but also on defense, as they'd gain a younger defenseman who stands at a shocking 6'7. That makes the loss of Robertson and the 1st round pick much easier.
Just a Mock Trade
It's important to remember that this is just a mock trade and not a real rumor from an insider. While it can be fun to speculate as to what a trade might look like, there's no guarantee that these two teams are even talking trade right now. That being said, we think this trade would benefit both sides quite nicely, and if it is a serious proposal on the table, should be considered.
