Journalist Arpon Basu has come up with a very interesting idea for the Habs to part with forward Christian Dvorak. It involves a proposal between the Habs and the Sabres. According to Basu, Dvorak's value is higher than most people think. In Dvorak's case, the numbers don't necessarily reflect his true value on the trade market. A third-line center who wins his face-offs, who can play both ways of the rink, who can play on the power play and on the short-handed, that's an attractive element for an aspiring team. I think the Canadiens will see him as such, and will need a considerable return to trade him. Again, as an example, let's say the Buffalo Sabres are in playoff contention at the trade deadline. If they feel they need a veteran center to stabilize things and play well defensively, they might be willing to trade a youngster like Isak Rosen, a very good prospect, but not the Sabres' crown jewel. If Kent Hughes really does get his hands on a first-round pick for Christian Dvorak, it would be a veritable steal in my book!
