The NHL has changed in recent years. Now, young players sign long, lucrative contracts, without even going through a bridge contract, directly after their mandatory three-year entry pact. Admittedly, this isn't the case for all young players, but it's a trend for future stars, and Trevor Zegras will be no exception. In an interview with the NHL website, the Ducks forward confessed that he wouldn't return to Anaheim until he had a contract in his pocket. I'd obviously like to go back there at the same time as my teammates, but it's out of my control. I'm comfortable here (Stamford, Connecticut) training and skating. Regardless of where we are with the contract, I know I'll be able to prepare the right way for next season. - Trevor Zegras It's eerily reminiscent of William Nylander's situation before signing his current contract, when he stayed at home away from Toronto. Money really has become more important than anything else in today's hockey, unfortunately.
