A few days ago, Kent Hughes finally managed to trade goaltender Casey DeSmith to the Vancouver Canucks, for Tanner Pearson and a 3rd-round pick. A good return under the circumstances.

Now there's one too many goalies in Montreal, and the solution may well lie in another transaction. The Lightning have learned that their star goaltender, Andrei Vasilevskiy, will miss about eight weeks of action, and they desperately need a quick solution.

Could their solution be in Montreal? According to Andrew Berkshire, it's quite possible.

"If you're Kent Hughes, do you trade Jake Allen to the Tampa Bay Lightning and give Cayden Primeau a real chance to become Montembeault's backup?"

So the veteran goalie could head to Tampa Bay, and Cayden Primeau would get his ultimate shot at the Bettman circuit.

Certainly, Allen's presence is reassuring, if only to continue playing mentor to Samuel Montembeault, who is still young. However, a certain Carey Price is not far away and could play this role, should Allen have to leave.
