This summer, as an unrestricted free agent, Johnny Gaudreau signed a seven-year, $68.25 million deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets. The small forward mentioned that he wanted to be closer to his family, but it never really made sense, as he is still over 800 miles away from New Jersey and has to fly there.

Johnny's parents broke the silence as to why their son decided to take advantage of his independence. They said that if the Flames had made him a reasonable offer, he would still be in Calgary.

"Last summer, if the Flames had offered close to [his value], Johnny said, "I would have been in Calgary for the next eight years, it wouldn't have been a problem." The Flames offered him a contract, but it wasn't even close to his value... It was a joke. He was really, really embarrassed."

You can see all the class of Gaudreau, who never put the blame on the Flames organization. You can also see why Matthew Tkachuk wouldn't negotiate his next contract in Calgary.
