One of the questions that remains about the Montreal Canadiens is why Kent Hughes was so quiet at the trade deadline.

Among the potential trade files for the CH, there was that of Joel Edmundson, who will finally finish the season in Montreal.

Why didn't the Tricolore GM trade the 29-year-old veteran defenseman?

RDS journalist François Gagnon just gave us the answer in his latest article.

He states that the offers received from the Habs by other NHL teams were not up to Hughes' standards. To quote him directly, "we are talking about fourth and fifth round picks" for number 44.

Let's just say that's disappointing to hear, especially since it's not nearly enough of a return, considering how much he brings to the team in terms of leadership.

With this information, we can better understand why Hughes did not trade his defenseman, especially since he is still under contract for next season. If the Tricolore really wants to move him, they can still do so in a few months.

It must be said that the recent injuries he suffered in recent months, have greatly affected the value of the big defender. The fact that he missed all the games in February did not help the cause for a transaction.

In fact, as Gagnon mentioned on Twitter, this time, Hughes wanted a first round pick for Edmundson.

So we were very far from a potential trade in his case.
