The NHL is known as a league were players who dive to try and draw calls are heavily frowned upon. Players like Tim Stutzle know this all too well. Last night another player added to his reputation after a questionable call.
Colton Draws Critical Tripping Penalty Against Vancouver Canucks
The Colorado Avalanche faced off against the Vancouver Canucks last night in what could be a playoff preview. It was a tight game all night but in the last minutes of the 3rd period a very questionable call helped the Avalanche secure the victory. With less than 4 minutes left, Avalanche forward Ross Colton drew a tripping call on Ian Cole. Not everyone saw it that way.

Rick Tocchet seemed not to like this call. You be the judge #Canucks fans, was this a dive? Were the #Canucks on the wrong side of the officiating again tonight? Fans mostly seemed to agree that this was a bad call. It is just the latest in a long collection of posts complaining about the officiating in NHL games. A typically brutal call at a crucial time in the game NHL reffing is a complete joke

NHL Announcer Gives Opinion On Questionable Tripping Call
This time, it wasn't just fans complaining about the call though. NHL announcer Steve Kouleas chimed in with his opinion on the play. He sided with the fans that felt it should not have been a penalty. In fact, he went so far as to call out Colton for embellishing the play, calling him 'the biggest diver in the NHL.' Ross Colton is the biggest diver in the @NHL @ScoutingTheRefs @ESPNRefNHL jacks would have not called that !!!!!! @SiriusXMNHL

Tim Stutzle might push back on this claim from Kouleas. As might fans that are aware of the German-born player's reputation. That being said, this play certainly looked like Colton was intentionally trying to mislead the referees.
