The five players accused in the 2018 World Junior's scandal, Dillon Dubé, Cal Foote, Michael McLeod, Carter Hart, and Alex Formenton; have chosen to undergo a jury trial. This decision indicates that it will be a while before the trial date is set, as jury trials typically require more preparation time. The players, who were part of Team Canada, have been charged and have decided to be tried together.

The Five Hockey Players From the 2018 WJC Scandal Request for a Trial By Jury

This collective decision suggests that they are united in their defense strategy and are prepared to face the allegations as one. According to a report by The Globe and Mail, the decision for a jury trial was made earlier this week, and the lawyers representing the accused players have expressed confidence in the jury's ability to impartially and fairly judge the case based on the evidence and testimony presented.

The hockey community is highly anticipative of the trial, seeking to uncover the truth behind the allegations that have marred the reputation of the 2018 WJC team. Further updates are expected as the case progresses.

More from The Globe and Mail:

Five former members of Canada's 2018 world junior hockey team who have been charged will have a trial by jury, The Globe and Mail reports.

The players, whose request for a jury trial was granted Tuesday, will be tried together as a group.

It will be several months at least before a trial date is scheduled.

"Earlier this week, all five players selected a trial by jury and they are confident that jurors drawn from the community will decide this case fairly and impartially after hearing all the evidence and testimony," lawyers representing the accused players wrote Globe journalist Robyn Doolittle in a joint statement.
