Connor McDavid has been nothing short of spectacular at the 4 Nations, and he recently revealed that it's exhausting and wouldn't want this every year.

Canada's 4 Nations Face-Off coaching staff learned something Edmonton Oilers fans learned many years earlier, you can't stick anybody next to the wing of Connor McDavid and expect magic overnight.

McDavid is dominant enough that he will find opportunities regardless, but when complemented by the right linemates, his game is great instead and he becomes unguardable.

The game against Sweden validated that Mitch Marner and Sam Reinhart were not the duo for the task, leading to the shakeup following the loss to the U.S. Mark Stone and Brayden Point, however, played much better with McDavid.

It is not easy to find. Zach Hyman has learned this chemistry here in Edmonton, flourishing alongside McDavid and notching 36 and 54-goal seasons while McDavid has accumulated close to 500 points in the past three and a half seasons.

Team Canada is attempting the same magic. Even amidst the greatest the world has to offer, McDavid is constructing himself. He wanted to dominate the stage here, and he's doing just that.

The right linemates and chemistry is what lets McDavid flourish

McDavid can work magic with anybody, Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch said, but the right chemistry takes him over the edge.

"I think anybody can play with Connor because of how good he is, he can find anybody on the ice," said Knoblauch. "But it's important to find somebody who can get him the puck, whether it's on the breakout or going up the rush, and it's important to have some net-front presence."

Even with his dominating performances, McDavid acknowledges this tournament is grueling. Competition, travel, and constant games are taking a toll even on the world's greatest players.

He does enjoy playing for Canada, however, and thinks best-on-best tournaments need to occur every two seasons, not every year, so they remain something special and don't break down players.

Fans will be able to see McDavid one final time this tournament, as Team Canada takes on the USA tomorrow night for a winner-take-all grand finale.
