In a recent exchange on social media a former Ottawa Senator great has tossed a major insult toward current Ottawa Senator Tim Stutzle.

Tim Stutzle is one of the cornerstone pieces for the rebuilding Ottawa Senators. In a year where the Senators have failed to take a leap forward Stutzle himself has taken a personal step back.

Due to his lackluster play, some fans believe Stutzle is too soft to be on a winning team. This is a sentiment apparently also shared by former Senator Bobby Ryan who shared his thoughts on Stutzle on X. Ryan in a bit on X decided to roast fans hockey takes. One fan claimed Stutzle was too soft and instead of roasting him Bobby Ryan agreed, take a look.




This is a strong take from Bobby Ryan who is passionate about the franchise he used to call home for several seasons. However, does he have a point or is this just another opinion to drown out?

Is Ryan Right About The Senators Being Too Soft?

The Ottawa Senators have been disappointing this season. While it is easy to point fingers at Stutzle for underperforming is he actually the problem in Ottawa?

This season the Senators have had atrocious goaltending and defensive play from some of their stars in those areas. The Senators lack a true number-one goaltender at the moment. Jake Sanderson is in a bit of a Sophomore slump while veteran defensemen Jakob Chychrun and Thomas Chabot have underperformed.

Of course, offensively the weapons are not producing at the rates that some hoped. However, one could argue this is because the Senators tried to add too much grit and physicality and sacrificed scoring touch.

As the Senators head into the offseason they will need to have serious discussions about the future of their team. Either they need to surround players like Tim Stutzle and Brady Tkachuk with more skill or lean into the physicality and grit further.

If they go towards physicality and grit Stutzle could be on his way to a new home.
