This afternoon, some of Hockey Canada's top people, including President Katherine Henderson, addressed the future of the program after an embarrassing World Juniors performance. After Canada's Quarterfinal exit from the World Junior Championships Candian fans and media members including Don Cherry have been calling for major changes to be made. Today it seems as though Hockey Canada have heard the complaints from fans and are willing to make major changes going forward to improve the organization and selection process, particularly for the World Junior Championships. During a press conference at the World Junior Championships Hockey Canada President Katherine Henderson along with Senior Vice President Scott Salmond addressed what changes will be made.
Hockey Canada President promises major changes after World Juniors collapse
During the press conference, President Henderson was asked what she would say to fans who bought tickets expecting to see Canada in the semifinals and beyond and now are left disappointed. Henderson pointed back to the fact that there is still high-level hockey to be played and plenty of excitement left in the tournament despite Canada's exit and made sure to remind fans that this is not the first time Canada has fallen down and that better days are ahead. Anyone who bought a package is going to see unbelievable hockey, said the president and CEO of Hockey Canada. While it feels unthinkable, it certainly has happened in the past. There was a time when Canada came eighth. So what you do is you go back and you look at where are we right now, what is it that we've done in the past that we should no longer do, and what should we do more of? These answers are of course not what fans want to hear as many rightfully angry fans want to hear solutions to the lack of success from Canada over the last couple of tournaments. Luckily when Scott Salmond spoke fans got a bit more direction from him regarding the plan going forward and that things are guaranteed to change from an evaluation standpoint. Salmond emphasizes a focus more on skill over the next several years which has been one of the main criticisms from fans during this year's tournament.

Of course, these answers will not do nearly enough to make up for the severe disappointment that fans are currently feeling but it could provide an avenue so that Canada doesn't face these circumstances again anytime soon. Canada should be one of the dominant nations in every international tournament when it comes to hockey. With the recent results at the World Junior Championships, there is a clear need for a new plan and now over the next 12 months, it will be fascinating to see what the plan is from Katherine Henderson and Scott Salmond to fix the situation.
