Today the Vancouver Canucks trading frenzy has continued as they have completed a trade with the Nashville Predators involving a defenseman. According to reports from Frank Seravalli and an announcement made by the Canucks they are trading defenseman Mark Friedman to the Nashville Predators for future considerations.

The trade comes after the big acquisition of Marcus Pettersson from the Pittsburgh Penguins leaving the Canucks will more defensemen on the roster than they can play. During his time with the Canucks Friedman played just 5 NHL games and spent 20 games in the AHL with the Abbotsford Canucks. With no path for Friedman to see playing time going forward Patrik Allvin and the front office likely just decided to give him a fresh start somewhere else. According to a post on X from the Predators Friedman will report to the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL.

Trading Friedman also gives the Canucks slight cap relief of almost a million dollars to pursue other players as they continue to aggressively rebuild their roster in the middle of the season. As of now the future considerations are not exactly known what that will turn into but likely will not be much if anything in the way of picks or players. After trading J.T. Miller fans wondered if the Canucks would continue to go all in on winning this season. The aggressiveness from Allvin and the front office on the trade market seems to send the incredibly clear message that they will make the moves necessary to try and win now and in the future. As more details emerge on this deal and what it means for the Canucks plans going forward we will pass those along to you.
