The NHL is and has always been a violent sport, but now a top agent has called out the NHL Commissioner for his lack of attention to CTE. Five years after his tragic passing, a report has emerged on 14-year NHL veteran Greg Johnson, with the TSN report revealing posthumously that he has CTE, a brain disease that comes as a result of repetitive brain trauma, found mostly in former athletes. Now, Allan Walsh, a prominent agent has called out Gary Bettman and the NHL for their lack of awareness and attention to CTE in current and former players. A message directly to Gary Bettman - there is NHL player blood on your hands. #EndCTE

In the report, Johnson's daughter also addresses the situation, as she looks to increase awareness of the risk that CTE presents in current athletes. «I had no idea what CTE even stood for when my dad took his life,» Carson said in a statement released by the Boston-based Concussion Legacy Foundation. «Now understanding that the hits he endured throughout his hockey career damaged his brain, I want all athletes to understand the risks and I want the NHL to start acknowledging it exists and do more to protect its players so other daughters don't have to lose their fathers.» The passing was an absolute tragedy, but it's something we've seen more and more of in former NHL and NFL players in recent years, and while the NFL have taken steps towards rectifying this, Gary Bettman has severely lagged behind. Now, we hope this report calls the NHL to action in the hopes that they improve awareness in players past, present and future and implement preventative measures.
