Michael Misa has the potential to be the number one overall pick at the upcoming NHL entry draft, but his recent actions toward fans have earned him a suspension. It has been a wild week for Hockey Canada, as the organization took criticism for leaving several of its top prospects off their 2024 World Juniors roster. One of the bigger snubs was Michael Misa, a highly touted prospect who is nearly universally projected to go No. 1 overall in the 2025 NHL Draft. Misa is having an absolutely amazing season, scoring 25 goals and 49 points in just 25 games thus far. However, recently he gained news for a totally different reason when he freaked out the fans in an annual tradition of teddy bear toss. Misa fired a teddy bear back to the stands and that was it, he started a major problem.

It has since been confirmed by the Ontario Hockey League that Misa will indeed face a one-game suspension as a result of his actions given that a game misconduct was called for shooting an object off the playing surface.

While the incident might be viewed as a lapse in judgment for the talented 17-year-old, the one-game suspension seems warranted under Canadian Hockey League rules. Fortunately, the nature of the incident, tossing a soft object like a teddy bear, makes it less severe, easing concerns for his team, the Saginaw Spirit. There is also little to no behavioral concern with Misa off the ice, so this incident shouldn't blemish his reputation in any significant manner. With his elite skillset and size, he will continue to be on pace to be one of the top-five selections at the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. His dominance at the OHL level this season, averaging a goal per game, is a reason this small misstep will not hang over the bright future as he develops to NHL stardom.
