Russian defenseman Yegor Sorokin has sadly died at the young age of 27. Investigators are still trying to piece everything together to provide full details.

It is with profound sadness we have to announce the tragic death of former Russian D-man Yegor Sorokin, tragically taken from all of us long before his time at just 27 years young. His passing has sent shockwaves through the hockey fraternity, who are mourning not only the loss of a brilliant player but, most importantly, the kindest of souls whose presence touched the lives of all who surrounded him.

Tragedies of this nature remind us very clearly how fragile life can be. It seems that we hear of young athletes, brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters who leave this world long before their time, tragic victims of circumstances beyond our control. Even though Sorokin's passing is another heartbreaking example, let us remember and celebrate not only the hockey player he was but also the human being behind the game, a person who touched many with his spirit and passion.

The five-year period that Sorokin spent in Russia's MHL saw him play for teams such as Yekaterinburg Auto Jr, Nizhnekamsk Reaktor, Volzhsk, and Ufa Tolpar. Through 205 games, the 6-foot defender recorded 55 points, including consecutive seasons of twenty assists or more.

It would appear that the deaths of young athletes have been an all-too-common occurrence of late; each an example of how fragile and dear a gift of life is. No family deserves to experience this pain; no friend, no community should have to bear it. While this will never get any easier to endure, we must continue to draw strength from honoring those lost and supporting those remaining.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family, friends, teammates, coaches, and fans of Yegor Sorokin. He will be truly missed both on and off the ice, but his memory will be a treasure in the hearts of all who knew him. Let his life be a reminder of the happiness he gave to people and the way he inspired them.
