The Winnipeg Jets have seemingly dealt with injuries all season long in 2023-24, and now they may have suffered their biggest loss of all.

Gabe Vilardi out with an enlarged spleen

After plenty of injury worries in his first season with the Jets, Gabe Vilardi may now be out for a significant stretch, with Head Coach Rick Bowness confirming that he has been diagnosed with an enlarged spleen.

#NHLJets coach Rick Bowness says Gabe Vilardi has been diagnosed with an enlarged spleen. This is something that recently was discovered. He won't travel with the team for the five-game trip. No timeline on a return. He's getting treatment.

Because of his other injury problems, Jets medical staff found out about this issue by accident while looking for other problems, producing even more mystery about a potential return timeline.

Per the #NHLJets, the spleen issue with Gabe Vilardi was just diagnosed as part of an ongoing medical evaluation pertaining to a different (undisclosed) issue. So plenty of mystery about the whole situation.

The Jets are heading on a big road trip of five-games, with Vilardi a certainty to miss all of those games, but with Stanley Cup goals in 2023-24, they'll need him back by the playoffs. The team have added Tyler Toffoli and Sean Monahan in recent times, giving them more punch up front to go along with their depth and goaltending, and if they get Vilardi and everyone healthy by the playoffs, they'll be a team that no one wants to face.
