A Zamboni driver is facing heavy consequences as he was seen crashing into the boards near a referee, where it was determined he was drunk. Police arrested him. A bizarre incident at a western Quebec hockey rink landed a Zamboni driver in legal hot water. Authorities arrested the 25-year-old on suspicion of impaired driving following a low-speed collision involving the ice-resurfacing machine on Monday. It happened in Chelsea, Quebec while the driver was resurfacing the ice between two hockey games. Police said the Zamboni drove off course and collided with the rink's boards, right next to what appeared to be an on-ice referee. In the 30-second clip, a referee can be seen skating alongside the Zamboni, trying to keep up as it heads toward the boards. The video ends with the Zamboni crashing hard into the barrier with those in attendance in disbelief. Sgt. Martin Fournel with the Securite Publique MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais said a number of people actually witnessed the crash and one witness called police to report he suspected the driver had been drinking. Police administered a field sobriety test on-scene <a href='https://infotel.ca/newsitem/drunk-zamboni-driver/cp406951321' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>and arrested the driver</a>. He was later released on a promise to appear in court. Fortunately, nobody was hurt due to this, though the collision caused some loss in the door of the rink. The driver is now facing legal consequences, and the community is anxiously awaiting further developments as the case winds its way through the court system.
