It would appear Anaheim is getting the ball rolling, with NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reporting the Ducks have traded veteran D Cam Fowler to the St. Louis Blues.
Cam Fowler's been the stalwart on the Anaheim backend for some time now, as he was picked 12th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2010 NHL Draft.
Smooth-skating, fluid puck-mover, and a leader-type player, he usually logs heavy minutes and contributes some offense, and will often mentor the youngsters throughout a career.
This trade continues the Anaheim rebuild, as Anaheim is looking to move any asset they can for youth and futures. Meanwhile, for St. Louis, Fowler brings in much-needed depth to the blue line.
He becomes a critical addition due to his ability to succeed in any situation, including bolstering the power play.
Although Anaheim did not disclose the whole return package, it's probably custom-made for them according to their long-term strategy.
However, it also shows commitment on both sides in doing whatever it takes to fix what each needs in the immediate and future time.
Update:
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has reported the full details of the return package. The Ducks have also traded a fourth-round pick to the Blues along with Fowler, and in return, they are getting a second-round pick and a prospect from the Blues organization.
38.5 percent of Fowler's salary will also be retained by the Ducks in this deal.
