Brad Marchand is one of the most hated players in the NHL, but on Thursday, his actions may have crossed a line, and it could cost his team. The Toronto Maple Leafs picked up a huge home win in Game Six against the Boston Bruins, and ahead of a game seven in Boston, they could be without their captain. According to a social media post, Marchand broke a major NHL rule on Thursday when he pushed an official as he headed back to the bench, and by the NHL's rule book, it could trigger a 10-game suspension. 40.3 - Automatic Suspension - Category II - Any player who deliberately applies physical force to an official in any manner, which physical force is applied without intent to injure, or who spits on an official, shall be automatically suspended for not less than ten (10) games.

It's unclear whether or not the NHL are indeed looking into enforcing the rule here, given it would mean the Bruins would be without their captain for a critical game seven, but looking at the video, it's hard to dispute his actions.

We've not yet heard anything from the NHL and their Department of Player Safety, but if they are indeed looking to play things right down the middle, it's a move they need to look into. With all the momentum behind them, the Maple Leafs are full of confidence heading into this one, and if Boston do indeed lose Marchand, as they should by the rule book, it would stack the odds against the Bruins.
