This afternoon surprising news was announced by the Boston Bruins and their main play-by-play announcer Jack Edwards. Jack Edwards has announced he is stepping away from the team and retiring after this season.

In a statement today announcer Jack Edwards of the Boston Bruins decided to announce his retirement. Jack Edwards is one of the most well known announcers currently in the NHL and in recent history. Whether you love or hate his style his comments are always going to be linked to Bruins moments.

W/ "gratefulness" & "a heavy heart" Jack Edwards announces his retirement from broadcasting at the end of this season: "I am no longer able to attain the standards I set for myself, to honor the fans, the players, the Bruins organization and NESN with the best they all deserve.»

"I thank every member of the Bruins and NESN for your loyalty, helping me to achieve and live out a lifetime goal, high above the ice.»

With his retirement coming after this season Jack Edwards will have one more playoff run to call. Once the Bruins season ends in either victory or defeat the search will be on for a new play-by-play announcer.
