A new set of reports has indicated that Dan Vladar's time with the Calgary Flames could be coming to an end as the team moves forward around Dustin Wolf. Earlier this week Flames goalie Dustin Wolf made a bold claim about the team's playoff chances with him as their starting goalie. With Wolf's newfound confidence and takeover of the starter role for the Calgary Flames this season the time has come for a serious conversation regarding Dan Vladar's future with the team. Vladar has been a staple of the Flames organization for the last four seasons serving in a backup role mostly but occasionally getting an opportunity as the main goaltender. This season things have just not gone well for Vladar as he has posted a 3.12 goals against average and a 0.886 save percentage.

Until this point, Vladar underperforming in the backup role but being a good locker-room presence was enough to justify keeping him around. However, as the Flames' new goals of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs seem more likely to happen by the day, the team is in need of reinforcements that Vladar could warrant in a trade.
Could Dan Vladar's Time with the Calgary Flames Be Coming To An End?
With Vladar struggling and the Flames having a potential replacement waiting in the AHL in Devin Cooley who has had an outstanding season with the Calgary Wranglers a trade seems more likely than ever before. At 27 years old Vladar still has plenty of time to develop as a goalie and likely could use a change of scenery to get more playing time. According to Elliotte Friedman, GM Craig Conroy is looking to reward the Flames for being in a playoff spot and would be open to moving Vladar to do so if the market for his services becomes more plentiful.

Add in the fact that fans have now begun to turn on Vladar and push him out the door and the decision to trade him becomes all that much more clear.

Even if Vladar becomes a throw-in piece to something bigger for the Flames moving him to a new home and finding a new option to back up Dustin Wolf down the stretch needs to be a priority for Conroy and the Flames. With the trade deadline approaching the Flames and Conroy need to continue improving this roster and finding an upgrade for Vladar should be near the top of the list. As more reports become available on the Flames trade deadline plans we will pass the latest news along to you.
