The Calgary Flames had a down year in 2023-24, and after moving plenty of veterans throughout the year, their sale continues into the off-season. After a down season this past year, the Calgary Flames were linked to moves with Andrew Mangiapane, and just before the 2024 NHL Draft, the team have now moved the winger. According to Elliotte Friedman, the return will be a 2025 second-round draft pick from the Washington Capitals. Andrew Mangiapane has been traded from Calgary to Washington for a second-round pick in 2025

The 28-year old had a career year in 2021-22 with an impressive 35 goals, but has only managed 31 since that point, and with the team moving towards a rebuild it makes sense. For Washington, it's a good deal to get a potential top-six winger, especially given their ageing roster, and if he can be placed next to some talent, the team may bring out his old form and get a steal out of this trade. Washington also get a very reliable player who has missed just seven games over the past three seasons, and if he finds his finishing touch again, he may yet be a 30 goal scorer in the NHL again.
