The Edmonton Oilers could make an official decision for Jack Campbell's future with the organization in the coming days.

Today marks the opening of the buyout window in the NHL. Teams will have until June 30 to buy out contracts they don't want to keep.

This is what the Edmonton Oilers could do with Jack Campbell and his terrible contract.

Campbell, 32, played only five games with the Oilers this season before being sent down in the AHL, where he remained for the whole season. In the two seasons he spent in Edmonton, he had 0.888 and 0.873 save percentages, with 3.41 and 4.50 goals against average.

In addition, the goalie has three seasons left on his $5 million AAV contract, which turned out to be one of the worsts deals in recent years.

"The inevitable Jack Campbell buyout that's coming this week unless a miracle team trades for him. The oilers will save 3.9, 2.7 and 2.4 million over the next 3 years. A very necessary sunk cost fallacy move to get rid of a gigantic error of a signing. #letsgooilers"

After all that happened, no teams will go after him on the trade market. The Oilers seem poised to buy him out, saving crucial funds for the three next seasons.
