A very scary scene emerged last night regarding Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov, as he lost consciousness during overtime and fell to the ice. Already without Frederik Andersen, the Carolina Hurricanes could be even more tested in goal now after Pyotr Kochetkov was injured Saturday night. Kochetkov, serving as the team's de facto starting goalie, was forced to leave during overtime in the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The injury occurred when Hurricanes defenseman Sean Walker accidentally collided with Kochetkov while attempting to block Zach Werenski's break. Walker's skate clipped Kochetkov's head, leaving the goaltender motionless on the ice for several seconds until medical staff arrived. You can see the video below where it appears that Kochetkov is completely unconscious and unable to move at all on the ice. Very scary scene indeed.

Though Kochetkov was able to skate off with the help of others, he looked disoriented. Spencer Martin came in to close out the game, including the shootout. Unfortunately for the Hurricanes, they ended up losing the game 5-4 in the shootout to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Fans and teammates alike are no doubt more concerned about Kochetkov's health, but the loss definitely stings as well. There was no update on Kochetkov's status after the game from head coach Rod Brind'Amour. The 25-year-old goaltender is in his fourth NHL season.

His best campaign came in 2023-24 when he posted a .911 save percentage, a 2.33 goals-against average, and four shutouts in 42 games. This season, Kochetkov has played in 12 games, going 10-2 with a .907 save percentage and a 2.30 goals-against average.
