The Gaudreau family has broken their silence on the tragedy that struck Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew Gaudreau last night, by issuing a statement.

The hockey world is in mourning following the devastating news that Columbus Blue Jackets star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew tragically passed away in a bicycle accident. The two brothers, who were struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Sean Higgins, who was reportedly under the influence at the time, were pronounced dead on arrival.

The Gaudreau family has released a statement in regard to the tragedies of last night.

Sean Higgins is looking at serious legal consequences: two counts of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, which can lead to as much as over 20 years in prison, and fines totaling up to as much as $400,000.

Unfortunately, Johnny Gaudreau and his brother had just prepared to attend their sister's wedding the following day, but the event was understandably canceled with the family trying to come to terms with their unbearable loss.

Johnny Gaudreau had just finished an 81-game season in which he scored 12 goals, collecting 60 points. He was about to start his third season with the Blue Jackets when his life was taken. His absence will be hugely felt by fans as the new season gets underway. Our sympathies are with the Gaudreau family at this horribly traumatic time.
