Alex Chiasson hasn't played a full NHL season in a number of years now, and he may be in danger of missing another year after being cut by the Detroit Red Wings.

The NHL pre-season can be brutal for so many reasons, and after making it so far in training camp with the Detroit Red Wings, veteran forward Alex Chiasson has officially been cut from the team.

Given the lack of forward depth in the Red Wings lineup right now, a spot was there for the taking this pre-season, but through three games he went scoreless, with the team opting to part ways with him. At 34-years of age, the Montreal native last played in the NHL with Detroit during the 2022/23 campaign, racking up 6 goals and 9 points in that time, and with their lack of depth up front, he may be an option for the team later down the line this season.

Chiasson was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the second-round of the 2009 NHL Draft, and has since gone on to play in 651 games, including with the Washington Capitals during their Stanley Cup campaign in 2018.

Unfortunately, the 6-foot-4 winger just hasn't been able to find his footing in recent years, and with more and more young talents entering the league every season, one has to wonder if we've seen the last of Chiasson in the NHL. At this point, it's unclear what his future holds, but with no NHL games a season ago and now being cut from the PTO, this will be a story to keep a very close eye on.
