Today NHL insider Frank Seravalli has called out Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman claiming that the team's coaching is not the reason they are failing to win. Earlier this month the Detroit Red Wings made the decision to fire head coach Derek Lalonde and replace him with Todd McLellan.

The firing by the Red Wings was seen as a desperate move by an organization feeling the pressure of needing to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In a new interview head coach McLellan spoke to the media and talked about making the game more simple for his players and focusing on just playing hockey.

Many fans and media members around the hockey world loved this answer from McLellan and believe that the Red Wings could be in for a quick turnaround under his new leadership. While some think the Red Wings are going to massively improve with McLellan others do not think the coaching was ever the main issue for the Red Wings.
Insider Frank Seravalli rips into Steve Yzerman blaming him for Red Wings struggles
In a new interview NHL insider Frank Seravalli spoke about the Red Wings coaching change and he does not believe the Red Wings will take a jump under McLellan. Seravalli indicates that unnecessary moves like signing Vladimir Tarasenko doomed the Red Wings long before the season started. I don't think you're getting much more out of this group than what they've currently got when they had an opportunity last summer to do things a little bit differently, finding cap space to sign Vladimir Tarasenko to a two-year deal, that's not what that team needed Seravalli continued and further criticized Yzerman for signing players like Tarasenko instead of investing assets into improving the defensive unit. It comes back to defense, and when you have Chiarot and Petry and Holl and all these guys that have been through a revolving door. Gostisbehere was through there at one point. It's not working, and it comes down to player evaluation from the management team that stands out to me Under McLellan, Yzerman and the Red Wings front office are likely hoping the new bench boss will try and get the team to tighten up defensively through a new system as opposed to new players. Whatever the plan is for the Red Wings things need to turn around immediately if they want to get back in the Stanley Cup Playoff race. Regardless of whether Yzerman, the coach, or the players are at fault everyone now needs to work together to dig themselves out of the major hole they are in.
