Cedric Pare was involved in a play that injured Montreal's Patrik Laine this pre-season, and now the team have protected him from the harsh backlash he faces.

The pre-season has been a brutal one in 2024 for injuries, with the most high profile of all being the collision that will now sideline Montreal Canadiens star Patrik Laine for up to three months. The play has drawn heavy criticism, most of it directed towards Toronto's Cedric Pare, whose knee it was that collided with Laine and forcing him to be helped off the ice.

This was met with plenty of backlash from Canadiens fans online, and now, the team have revealed through a Sportsnet report that they have helped Pare delete his social media accounts in the wake of all the hatred that was sent his way.

In a recent interview, Laine himself revealed newfound respect for Pare, who contacted him shortly after the incident to apologize and check in on the veteran Montreal forward.

#Habs Patrik Laine says he doesn't blame #Leafs Paré for his injury; said he kind of put himself in a bad spot to begin with. Laine says Paré texted him afterwards and he respects him for that.

The play itself was one that could have certainly been avoided, but after things have settled down, the two players have been in contact and settled the issue, and while it's unlikely to stop the fan criticism, this latest move from Toronto shows just how passionate and at many times over the top those fans can be.
