The Edmonton Oilers decided to sign Jeff Skinner during NHL free agency and things are not going well so far leading to new speculation about his future. The Edmonton Oilers have always struggled to find scoring in their lineup outside of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Last season former Toronto Maple Leaf Zach Hyman was able to step up and have a career year after being placed with Connor McDavid. This season Oilers fans were hoping to see a similar bump from veteran scorer Jeff Skinner who signed with the team this summer. After spending six seasons with the Buffalo Sabres Jeff Skinner was bought out as he sought an opportunity with a contending team. Despite being bought out Jeff Skinner had been productive with the Sabres tallying 30 goals in two of his last 3 seasons with the team. Unfortunately, Jeff Skinner has not translated his scoring success to Edmonton as he has just 4 goals and 7 points through 22 total games.

While some are doubting Jeff Skinner due to his ability others believe he is just not getting enough opportunities with the right teammates.

Regardless Jeff Skinner has struggled to fit in with the Edmonton Oilers and now there are reports of his potential exit from the team already.
Is the Jeff Skinner experiment coming to an end in Edmonton?
Despite his lack of success so far this season there is still hope of turning things around for Jeff Skinner. If he is unable to get the ice time and opportunities he wants in Edmonton that success could come elsewhere as the Oilers look to create salary cap space heading into the trade deadline. The main draw with Skinner is that he's scoring like a fourth liner but making $3M, so getting rid of him doesn't hurt the team much and is decent cap relief. - The Oil Rig While Jeff Skinner does have a no-trade clause in his contract there is belief around the league that he would be willing to be traded as long as he goes to another contender. Currently, Jeff Skinner has the most games played in the entire NHL without playing in a Stanley Cup Playoff game.

One would have to assume getting this low light off his record is priority number one for Jeff Skinner as he heads into the later years of his NHL career. As the season continues on the focus will be on Kris Knoblauch and the Oilers to see if they can make Jeff Skinner work or if finding him a new home is best for everyone.
