The Edmonton Oilers once again find themselves in the Stanley Cup Playoff hunt under first year GM Stan Bowman. Today Bowman addressed the media and was asked several questions about the future of the franchise as the NHL Trade Deadline comes up quickly. First Bowman spoke about the team's plans and the excitement of working with a Stanley Cup contender after last being with the rebuilding Chicago Blackhawks. Bowman admitted that each situation has its own unique challenges but that he loves finding ways to build around a veteran group of superstars. Yes, I think there's some accuracy to that. It is a challenge, but it's something that I actually enjoy, putting the pieces together in a different way but keeping the key pieces in place that are critical to your team success,» he said Bowman confirmed that discussions are underway about potential trade deadline targets and did reveal that they will likely target complimentary pieces over superstars for this year's trade deadline. We're discussing who else could we add to the mix that could be complementary players. I embrace the challenge and try to find players. It's exciting to see when it starts to come together. Then Bowman was asked about internal upgrades that could be provided in particular the looming return of Evander Kane who has been out for the entire season so far.
Stan Bowman opens up about Evander Kane's injury recovery
Next, Bowman was asked about Evander Kane and his continued recovery from multiple injuries.

Bowman began by admitting that at the moment there is not an official update on Kane's return timeline. I don't have any new update right now. Evander has been doing his rehab, but as far as his timeline and all that, I don't have anything new to share. However, he did say that they will have an update on his return soon as they continue planning out the trade deadline. Kane's status will impact how much salary cap space Bowman has to work with so an answer will be found before the Oilers make any major moves. Very true. We'll need clarity on that for sure, when he's available and all that stuff. It can impact how much cap space we have. They do go hand in hand and we should be getting an update very soon, he added. With the trade deadline just a couple of months away this means we could see an update on Kane within the next month. As that news and more details on the Edmonton Oilers trade plans are confirmed we will pass that news along to you.
