The Edmonton Oilers are loading up for a very deep playoff run, and in doing so, they have just signed an all-star defenseman for the remainder of the season. The Oilers are <a href='https://dailyhive.com/edmonton/oilers-sign-john-klingberg' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>entering an agreement with an unrestricted free agent all-star defenseman</a>, Darren Dreger of TSN reports Friday. <h3>John Klingberg is heading to Edmonton</h3> Just a few days ago, the Edmonton Oilers were listed as one of three potential teams hoping to sign John Klingberg in free agency and then it was announced that <a href='https://www.hockeylatest.com/nhl-team/edmonton-oilers/edmonton-oilers-become-the-favorite-to-land-former-all-star-defenseman-on-the-free-agent-market' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>they had become the favorite to land him</a>. These injuries led to him missing most of the 2023-24 season and significantly mudded his future in the NHL until now. Klingberg inked a one-year, $4.15 million deal as a free agent earlier that summer with the Leafs. He had five assists and was a brutal minus-7 in 14 games with the team before undergoing season-ending surgery on his hip. Drafted 131st overall by the Dallas Stars in the 2010 draft, <a href='https://www.nhl.com/player/john-klingberg-8475906' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>Klingberg</a> has a career total of 81 goals and 412 points in 633 career games split between the Stars, Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Gothenburg, Sweden, native represented his country four times at the World Championship and also helped his country win back-to-back gold medals in both 2017 and 2018.
