Elliotte Friedman is fantastic in his role as an Insider, but now he's dropped a hot take, calling out Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse.

After signing an 8-year deal with the Edmonton Oilers carrying a yearly cap hit of $9.25M per season, Darnell Nurse has opened himself up to plenty of criticism with his lack of elite level play. Now, in a surprising turn of events, one of the league's top insiders in Elliotte Friedman has dropped a bombshell take on Nurse on national television.

Elliotte Friedman just called Nurse a bottom pairing defenceman on national television 😭😭

While he certainly hasn't lived up to his potential, calling him a bottom pairing defenseman may be taking it a bit too far, even if many on X agreed with the take.

Since inking that deal, the Oilers have been having issues with surrounding their stars with complimentary pieces, and unsurprisingly, much of that falls back on Nurse's outrageous contract. The deal runs through the end of the 2029-30 season however, so he's still got years to prove people wrong, but unless he can turn it around soon, he will continue to face this type of criticism.
