The former Edmonton Oilers defenseman Tyson Barrie joined a rival team on a professional tryout contract. On Tuesday morning, an announcement was made by the Calgary Flames, confirming that they've signed Tyson Barrie to a PTO: Veteran defenceman Tyson Barrie will attend Flames Training Camp on a professional tryout (PTO), Flames GM Craig Conroy announced Tuesday.

The 33-year-old veteran will try to earn a lineup spot during training camp following two tough seasons with the Nashville Predators. Indeed, he'll look to bounce back from his stint in Nashville that saw him being limited to 65 games and 27 points, a long way from his usual point production. Before joining the Preds, the defenseman used to score a lot more, with a career-high tally of 59 points during the 2018-19 season with the Colorado Avalanche. He may have spent only three seasons in Edmonton, but he had a great impact on the team, scoring over 40 points in each year he played with the Oilers. Now, he'll get the opportunity to join the other side of the Battle for Alberta. All that's left for him to do is bring out his skills to the Flames' training camp and hope to impress the coaching staff in order to get a full-time roster spot in Calgary.
