The Edmonton Oilers are handing Leon Draisaitl a huge raise after this season, but now an NHL announcement will help them improve their team in a big way.

This off-season, the Edmonton Oilers finally got a deal done with Leon Draisaitl that makes him the NHL's highest paid player via AAV, and with an extension looming for Connor McDavid, things are about to get tight for their salary cap situation. However, the NHL's Board of Governors has seemingly given them and every other team a lifeline, as they have revealed the preliminary number for next season will be $92.5 million per team, a $4.5 million increase from this upcoming year.

This will obviously benefit every NHL team, but with Edmonton needing to pay not only McDavid but Evan Bouchard as well, this was something they desperately needed to fill out their roster as they chase a Stanley Cup. The Oilers are currently projected to be at around $77 million next off-season, meaning that even if Bouchard lands a deal coming in at the $10-11 million AAV mark, they will have a spare $5 million to build this roster around their stars.

The biggest issue comes the summer after when McDavid will either hit free agency or have a record setting deal with the Oilers officially begin, but with an extra $4.5 million to work with, the team may somehow be able to pay all of their stars. If they can get this done, we may be looking at another era in the NHL dominated by the Oilers, and while there's many things for this team to figure out before that point, right now all signs point to the next decade being a good one for Edmonton.
