Today NHL insider David Pagnotta and The Fourth Period released their first power rankings of the NHL season and they have majorly disrespected the Edmonton Oilers.

This evening a new article put together by NHL insider David Pagnotta at The Fourth Period has revealed his first power rankings of the NHL season. The rankings are based on the team's performances so far this season and as a result, the Edmonton Oilers are ranked quite low. The Oilers find themselves at 28th out of 32 teams on the list. According to David Pagnotta, it is the same script from last season but instead of a coaching change roster moves could be made instead.

New season, same script. A slow start in Edmonton shouldn't get the coach fired this year, but any prolonged struggle could open the door for some roster moves.

The Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup Finals opponent the Florida Panthers find themselves ranked 14th overall in the rankings despite currently leading the Atlantic Division. For the Edmonton Oilers, no one will argue that things have not gone to plan. The overall projection for the team though is still hopeful currently several star players including Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are underperforming. Once they get back on track the Oilers should skyrocket right back up this list.

To improve the Edmonton Oilers will still need to find ways to be consistent though. Earlier this month both Connor McDavid and veteran Corey Perry admitted that the Edmonton Oilers' compete level was not high enough. The Edmonton Oilers have also struggled through poor defensive play, a struggling power play, and bad goaltending which has now compounded upon their lack of scoring from their star players. Edmonton Oilers' struggles have led to suggestions of a major shakeup to the powerplay. Whatever is wrong the Oilers need to figure things out and fast if they want to keep their reputation as a Stanley Cup contender. If they cannot find a way to consistently improve in all areas then a major roster shake-up might be the only way to bring success to the Oilers lineup.

For now, the Edmonton Oilers will prepare to play against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday. Both the Oilers and Penguins are teams with high expectations who have struggled to string wins together this season. Whoever comes out on top might be able to create some much-needed momentum while the other team could be reaching panic mode.
